Words cannot explain

Edit: I just added a free textures section. Currently there are two different kinds of textures. Light textures and brick textures. The brick ones are from photos from my digital camera, sorry for them not being perfect. Sizes for download: 1024×768 and 800×600. Enjoy!

I just got home from a church activity. I had left my computer on with a texture-in-making open in Photoshop. My computer decided to restart itself while I was gone  . Tomorrow I shall try making some. I have never done textures before, so pardon me if they’re not great.

Aside from that horrible experience, I found another one. On my Wordpress dashboard I saw a new link under the “Incoming Links” header. Which honestly, I wish I had never opened. I opened the link only to find a rude and harsh review of my website that I was totally not prepared for. Do not continue reading if not interested. I’m debating whether to let Final Stop expire or not

First off, it surprised me I had been reviewed since I had not received an email saying my review was complete. After I began reading, this became rather insignificant. The site was Mobile Reviews. I was actually disappointed in their layout when I applied, I expected better. But I continued to apply because I had heard good things about the owner. While stating “I don’t mean to hurt your feelings at all”, a lot of the comments made in my reviews were delivered in a hurtful way. I have gotten bad reviews before, but never did I feel I was being treated as an insignificant thing. It got to a point I was just plain offended. Here are some of the comments I considered a bit inappropriate:

  • “The third button gives me a seizure, and it’s not going to make anyone want to come to your site”. This could have been nicely put: “The third button, in my opinion, has excessive animation and because of this might cause users to not click it” or something like that.
  • “Tutorials that won’t make me gouge my eyes out? Here’s hopin’! Oh dear god, you have about a thousand of these. Mkay. Mmmmkay. Stay strong. !!! Oh my god. No. I CAN’T DO THIS.” Could be: “I had high hopes of more advanced tutorials, not basic ones I have already done”.
  • “And, as Lily so kindly pointed out, the Photoshop heart one is “the worst tutorial ever”.” Could be: “I think this tutorial is somewhat amateur looking” or something less rude.
  • “Why would anyone want an icon that looks like any of those?”. Rephrased to: “I think they could use some improvement”.
  • “Blah blah blah, all basic”. Is the blah blah bla really necessary?
  • “If you don’t know how to delete a post, you should get off the internet”. Is now when I suppose you were born knowing everything you know now? I guess you always knew what to do right? Sadly, some people don’t have ti that easily.
  • “Erm, fills? What’s a fill? Something that’s designed to induce seizures?”. Nice way to describe other people’s work.
  • “Tacky much? Sorry, but… *retch*”. Thanks for the advice, I shall add some anti-vomiting pills on my site with free shipping!
  • “Hate all the lyric/text-filled ones”. Hate is such a strong word…didn’t anyone ever tell you that?

I suppose I “shouldn’t let people get to me” but when reading these things it is kind of hard not to. Sometimes I don’t even know if my website should stay online.Speaking of which Final Stop is expiring soon, should it be renewed? Or should it’s apparently shameful butt be left to die? Any opinions :$ ?

Note: This post is not intended to critique, offend or be mean/immature towards the review site. It is meant to be a way to get thing off my chest and point out a sad but true mistake made, like we all do.

  1. You should definetly renew your domain… Has the reviewer seen your christmas graphics (These are the ones I know off the top of my head…). Those penguins are adorable and I would like to see Him/Her trying it…

Don’t let insignificant words hurt you… What does she know? You love web-designing right? So why should you care what he/she thinks of it… You’re doing something you love, that’s what matters…

You should take these words to make you stronger… Prove them wrong… Show it in their face… Be stronger, I know you can do it!

  2. God, that us harsh, what right does the reviewer have to say things like that? Don’t take it personally, I expect they’re just jealous of your web design skills. From what I can see, your site looks great, the content is fabulous, just like the layout! And you should definately renew this domain! Don’t take it too personally what the reviewer said, they’re just doing it to make you feel insignificant, its what he/she wants! You like web designing, and its your site, so the reviewer can’t say anything to you! Just don’t take it personally :) xo

  3. No, I do not want to make Jaclyn feel insignificant. I’m not particularly jealous of her, although I did mention jealously somewhere - but this isn’t the reason that I wrote those things in her review. I mentioned jealousy in this review about a thousand times, and I still gave the site a high rating. I did say some nice things in the review; I even said that I think this can be a shining resource site with some work.
“what right does the reviewer have to say things like that?”
It’s called freedom of speech - I have every right.
About deleting the post - well, it’s not that hard, there’s a big old delete button right next to it. I didn’t need a tutorial to figure it out, so, um… yeah.
Sorry I said “blah blah blah”, I didn’t know you get offended by, um, nothing.
“Tutorials that won’t make me gouge my eyes out? Here’s hopin’! Oh dear god, you have about a thousand of these. Mkay. Mmmmkay. Stay strong. !!! Oh my god. No. I CAN’T DO THIS.” I think you kind of misunderstood that. What I meant was that I’ve seen so many terrible tutorials, I was hoping you wouldn’t have ones like it. And then when I clicked the link and saw that there were about a thousand, I felt overwhelmed.
Anyway, since you seem to have rewritten my whole review for me, I guess there was no point in me writing it. If you can’t handle my opinion, which you asked for, you shouldn’t have applied for a review.
I’m sorry you felt I was too harsh in your review, but maybe you should have read the About page?
FWIW, I don’t think you should let your domain name expire. As I said, I think you ARE good at making graphics, and I think your resource section is quite good. So, like I said, with some work, you’ll have a great website.
So, basically, what I’m trying to say is, I’m sorry you don’t agree with the review, but it’s an opinion, and people aren’t gonna agree with me 100% of the time, so meh.

  4. Oh, and sorry for the double comment, but what Taybah said about not taking it personally - that’s true. I’m not trying to hurt you, I’m honestly not. I’m just doing my “job”, so to speak. But seriously, DON’T take it personally, because I’m sure you’re a really nice person and I think it’s great that you’re trying to help people out with your website.

  5. Thank you for taking the time to actually respond. Like I said in my post, I have gotten bad reviews and I do respect peoples opinion, just delivered in a nicer way would have been nice. All I wanted. I did read the about page, I actually quoted a sentence from it on my post. Again, there is always nicer ways of saying things.

  6. Oh, sorry, I didn’t see that you’d quoted that bit. :P Well, that’s really my sense of humour more than anything else. I’m a really sarcastic person, and a lot of people don’t quite understand it. I wasn’t actually aiming to hurt your feelings, I was just being me. I rarely state things in the simplest way, and as you’ll see from reading other reviews, it’s not a part of your review in isolation. I kind of feel like you should have read some of my other reviews to see how I wrote them and how I operate, but if not, meh. What can you do?
Anyway, I hope there are no hard feelings (or at least not too many!), and please don’t let your domain name expire just because I was suffering from sleep deprivation/being my usual sarcastic self. :)

  7. One phrase comes to mind right now: “Errar es de humanos, saber retractarse es de sabios”. Meaning: Making a mistake is human nature, rectifying yourself is being wise. :)

  8. While I’m not saying that it’s wrong to feel slightly offended at the review, I would like to remind you that Clem DID give you a warning.

In her “Apply” page, she clearly states:

If you are offended by terms such as “blah blah blah” and “hate”, don’t apply! I’m not going to phrase anything in the “most polite” way, and I don’t appreciate it when people try to tell me how to write my reviews. You are applying because you want my opinion, not because you want to be told how perfect you are.

So that itself already rules out your 5th and 9th points against Clem.

As for everything else, you were the one to apply for the review. It was your personal choice, and hitting the “submit” button means you’re allowing Clem to give her opinion of your site through a publicized review on her site. Also, as I’m sure you know, if she was honey-nice and sugar-coated everything she said, you would finish the review with the impression that your site is the best out there and that Clem agrees with everything you do. Sometimes, slightly offensive (if you can even call it that) language must be used to get the site owner’s attention. Otherwise, you may not bother to listen to her suggestions. The point of a review site is, after all, to help web owners to improve their sites and get better.

    That’s all.

  9. Sorry for the double post…

But I would like to add that you DO have a nice site. It would be a waste to let your domain name expire. Good luck in the future! ;)

  10. Umm..I believe that was added today or something. When I applied, it didn’t say that. Secondly, I’m not stupid. And thirdly, I think she explains herself pretty well and I’m not sure if she needs you to try to do it for her. Besides, I’m clearly over it [comments above leave it clear]. I’m not looking for internet drama, it’s way overrated.

Thank you for taking your time to comment my post :). How nice of you! Hope to see you back! Bye! ;)

  11. Sorry if that sounded rude, it wasn’t intended that way. Just clearing that up, so no confusion is made.

  12. You go Jaclyn… Never go down… Always come out strong…

  14. Ugh. Stupid technology has a mind of its own, ne. XD

As for the review, I agree that they have the right to express themselves. If that’s their opinion and how they want to express it, that’s really good. Yay for free speech. What matters to me is that they want to help you improve, and I can see that, so I have nothing bad to say about the review. =D

In any case, you should definitely renew Final-Stop (and it’s good to hear that you got over it). I can’t wait to see how much more you improve. =D

zomg!! 0.0 Your textures. They is so pretty!!! *retinas explode* If I knew how to use textures, or had reason to, I would use yours.
